WEYMOUTH — August 20, 2026 — The Weymouth School Committee approved Superintendent Melanie Curtin’s annual summative evaluation as “proficient” following a 4–1 vote and received the district’s newly finalized five-year strategic plan, built around the core pillars of “Belong, Believe, Achieve.”

The Full Story

The Weymouth School Committee opened its 2026–2027 meeting cycle by reviewing comprehensive preparations for the upcoming school year, centering on district-wide strategic goals, facility emergency plans, and administrative performance.

Superintendent Melanie Curtin presented the district’s newly completed five-year strategic plan, developed over the prior academic year through community surveys and input from parents, staff, and administrators. The roadmap centers on the core motto “Belong, Believe, Achieve” and outlines five foundational values: respect, communication, relationships, high expectations, and responsibility.

The strategic plan establishes four main district focus areas: safe and supportive schools, learning and leading, effective communication, and budget and capital improvements. Curtin noted that while the district-level plan spans five years to allow adequate time for institutional change, individual school improvement plans will continue on three-year cycles to remain actionable and closely monitored. Committee members raised questions regarding data metrics, student-to-teacher ratios reported to the state, and ensuring robust parent engagement across district focus groups.

“We know if we want to do the very best by our students, we have to support everyone in our community including our staff. So we really tried hard to make this plan applicable to everyone to our school community.” — Superintendent Melanie Curtin
