ABINGTON - July 20, 2026 - The Abington Select Board convened for a joint meeting with the town’s sole remaining Water Commissioner to fill two key vacancies on the Abington-Rockland Joint Water Works Commission, appointing local plumber Corey Dalton and retired Coast Guard Officer Richard Mullen. Board members also approved a major licensing agreement with the Boston Bruins Foundation to construct a new street hockey rink at Arnold Park.

In a joint session with sole Abington Water Commissioner Amanda Hunter, the Select Board addressed critical vacancies on the joint Abington-Rockland Water Commission. Hunter highlighted that with three seats filled on Rockland’s side and only one on Abington’s, filling the two open seats was essential to maintain quorums and ensure balanced municipal representation.
The board interviewed three candidates present: tech consultant Zachary McGovern, licensed master plumber Corey Dalton, and retired Coast Guard Lieutenant Richard Mullen. When questioned about addressing town water supply challenges and potential water regionalization options, candidates discussed analyzing system throughput, monitoring population and commercial growth demands, and exploring potential regional water connections.
Hunter voiced strong support for Dalton, pointing out the value of having a candidate with licensed plumbing expertise to evaluate technical maintenance issues. Following motions, the joint body appointed Corey Dalton on a 4-1 vote and unanimously appointed Richard Mullen to serve on the commission. Hunter also updated the board that Abington’s PFAS water treatment plant is making great progress and is currently online.
