WEYMOUTH - June 25, 2026 - The Weymouth School Committee approved a vital five-year, $16.6 million student transportation contract with First Student, but the final meeting of the school year was quickly overshadowed by sharp internal divisions regarding the transparency of official records. Members traded formal point-of-order calls and clashed over alleged omissions in the June 4 minutes, reflecting ongoing friction regarding accountability and public disclosure within the committee.

The Full Story

The business portion of the meeting began smoothly with the approval of a $1.51 million warrant. However, a motion to approve the June 4 meeting minutes exposed deep rifts. Committee Member Ashley Dickerman launched a rigorous challenge, stating that the records from the June 4 “Meeting of the Whole” failed to meet Open Meeting Law standards by completely omitting “substantive, inappropriate, and offensive comments” made by Chair Tracey Nardone.

The debate escalated when Committee Member Kelly McClean intervened, asserting that political differences should never involve minor children and accusing the Chair of using her position to target another elected official’s child. Vice Chair Danielle Graziano—who was presiding over the session—quickly issued a point of order to halt the discussion, declaring the remarks an unauthorized personal attack and stating that such grievances belonged exclusively in executive session. McClean countered by requesting that all future subcommittees, workshops, and meetings of the whole be routinely recorded via digital platforms like Zoom to bypass physical and fiscal constraints while guaranteeing absolute public transparency. Despite the objections and negative votes from Dickerman and McClean, the disputed minutes passed in a tight 3-2 roll-call vote, though the regular session minutes were subsequently approved unanimously.

“It is my full intent to vote no on any minutes that are not transparent and complete, which should be all of our objectives. Additionally, due to ongoing issues with transparency and accuracy of meeting minutes, I would request that all school committee, subcommittee meetings, meetings of the whole, and workshops be recorded.” — Kelly McClean
