Smith Wins Halifax Selectman Seat in Local Election
Nagle and Hill secure Library Trustee positions; voter turnout reaches 636 across three precincts
HALIFAX - May 17 - Halifax's annual town election has brought changes to key positions in town leadership. William Smith secured the selectman seat with 381 votes, besting Gordon Andrews who received 247 votes.
In the race for the Board of Library Trustees, Erin Nagle and Susan Hill claimed the two open three-year terms. They garnered 356 and 383 votes respectively, beating out Rodney Hemingway's 228 votes.
The race for Constable saw Jake Okerfelt and Thomas Hammond defeat Michael Schleiff.
At his final meeting as chair on April 29, Selectman John Bruno, who didn't run for re-election, shared his thoughts on his time in office. "It's been a real privilege to represent the town and do my best in this role. I hope I've lived up to that responsibility," Bruno said.
Several uncontested races saw new officials take office. Jessica Page wins the Halifax Elementary School Committee seat, Candice Lee Greene takes a seat on the Board of Health, and Bruce Sylvester steps onto the Planning Board.
The Board of Selectmen is now tasked with finding a new town administrator after the resignation of Cody Haddad.
The election saw a turnout of 636 voters across the town
