ROCKLAND — May 5, 2026 — Rockland narrowly avoided a municipal “state of crisis” by securing a 155-voter quorum at its annual Town Meeting, passing the town’s fiscal budget but striking down a proposed update to the regional vocational school agreement.
The Full Story
During Tuesday’s Select Board meeting, Assistant Town Administrator Courtney Bjorgaard provided a debrief of the recent Annual Town Meeting. The town managed to hit its required attendance threshold with exactly 155 residents, allowing the municipal government to legally pass its budget and keep essential services funded for the upcoming fiscal year [11:33].
All articles on the warrant passed smoothly except for Article 31, which sought to update the regional agreement for the South Shore Vocational Technical High School. Bjorgaard noted that despite Rockland’s “no” vote, the town could still be legally bound to the new terms if six of the nine member communities approve the updated agreement at their respective town meetings [12:16].
