Plympton Voters Reject Fire Station Project, Elect New Selectman
Nathaniel Sides defeats incumbent John Traynor; $14 million fire station proposal fails at ballot box
PLYMPTON - May 17 - Plympton voters have rejected a $14 million fire station project and voted out incumbent Selectman John Traynor in the town's election.
Nathaniel Sides has won a three-year term on the Board of Selectmen, beating Traynor, the current Chair, 391 to 282.
The proposed fire station lost a debt exclusion ballot question needed to fund it 416-272.
Sides, who's lived in Plympton for 20 years and works as a pharmacist, shared his thoughts at a candidate forum: "I think it's a good time to bring in a fresh perspective, maybe from outside town government. Even though I'm younger, I believe I can offer a different viewpoint."
Traynor, who's been a selectman for nine years, said, "I feel I still have more to give. I believe my experience is valuable."
The fire station plan would have built a new facility behind the police station to replace the current 50-year-old one.
In other election news, Jason Fraser keeps his role on Silver Lake’s School Committee, and Jared Anderson won another term on the Board of Health.
694 voters turned out for the election.
