PLYMPTON - January 12, 2026 - Plympton is no longer part of the Silver Lake Regional School District’s energy contract and has secured its own, more favorable agreement with Sprague Energy.
The Full Story
Town Administrator Elizabeth Dennehy announced a significant shift in Plympton’s energy procurement strategy. After being excluded from a collective contract agreement by the Silver Lake Regional School District, the town successfully negotiated a reinstatement with Sprague Energy.
This new, independent contract is expected to yield better rates for the town because Plympton’s buildings are no longer grouped with less efficient structures from other communities in the district.
“It kind of worked out great that Silver Lake did drop us cuz it’s rated on how many the the buildings do and the den since the solar panels does very well for it oh so we even got a better rate” — Elizabeth Dennehy
The new agreement covers all town buildings, including the Highway Department, the transfer station, and the library.
In other business, the Board discussed upcoming capital projects. The Town Properties Committee has re-established its priority list, focusing first on the public water supply and the fire station, followed by the front door project as time permits.
The Board also addressed a recent Open Meeting Law complaint, which has been received and acknowledged but not yet resolved pending a public hearing by the Town Properties Committee.
Why It Matters
For taxpayers, the new energy contract is a direct financial win. By decoupling from the regional school district’s less efficient building portfolio, Plympton leverages its own investments in solar energy to secure lower utility rates. This move transforms a potential administrative hurdle—being dropped from a group contract—into a cost-saving opportunity that benefits the entire municipal budget.
