Override Passes in Hanover, Bringing $3.7M in Additional Funding
Residents elect Hughes to Select Board, Tracy to School Committee, and Henderson as Library Trustee
HANOVER - May 17 - Hanover voters have given the green light to a $3.7 million override and elected new officials in Saturday's annual town election.
The levy limit override passed with 3,118 votes in favor and 2,065 against. This allows the town to collect an additional $3.7 million in property taxes for the fiscal year starting July 1. A $6 million override failed a year ago.
In the Select Board race, Rachel Hughes beat Nicholas Spolsino 2,957 to 2,094.
Christopher Tracy won a seat on the School Committee, receiving 3,268 votes compared to Andrea Hammett's 1,436.
For Trustee of the Public Library, Steven Henderson narrowly defeated incumbent Tammy Tedeschi, with 2,314 votes to Tedeschi's 2,157.
The remainder of the races were unopposed.
This override approval comes after voters turned down a larger $6 million proposal last year. Town officials trimmed the request, focusing on making it more affordable and sustainable through fiscal year 2032.
At a recent budget forum, Town Manager Joe Colangelo said, "We listened to the community. We wanted to come back with something significantly different."
The approved override will add about $387 to the average residential tax bill, on top of the $303 increase from the base budget.
