MARSHFIELD - August 3, 2026 - Following an executive session, the Marshfield Select Board voted 2-1 during its open meeting to approve an employment contract appointing Edward Langill as the town’s new Town Administrator, establishing a three-year term effective August 17, 2026.

The Full Story

Following executive session negotiations, Chair Rick Smith presented the material terms of the employment contract for incoming Town Administrator Edward Langill. The three-year agreement includes starting annual salaries set at $220,000 for year one, $222,000 for year two, and $225,000 for year three. Additional provisions outline a six-month probationary period, four weeks of paid vacation, three personal days, use of a municipal vehicle, mandatory MCPPO purchasing certification within one year, and a requirement for 90 days’ notice prior to voluntary resignation.

“There is a contract that we’re going to be pushing forward for a vote here that includes the following terms... an employment term starting on August 17th, 2026.” — Rick Smith, Chair

While Select Board Member Chris Rohland voted alongside Chair Smith to approve the contract, Select Board Member Eric Kelley dissented. Kelley voiced concerns over the base compensation structure, stating he favored a lower base salary paired with performance incentives.
