Marshfield Residents Vote 'Yes' on School Roof Funding
Support in all precincts as the Debt Exclusion passes 1036 to 380 according to preliminary results
MARSHFIELD - January 10, 2026 - Marshfield voters decisively approved a $3.4 million debt exclusion on Saturday, authorizing the town to fund critical repairs to the Martinson school roof.
According to unofficial results obtained at the polls, the measure passed by a significant margin, with 1,036 votes in favor and 380 opposed. The tally indicates that approximately 73 percent of voters supported the funding request.
The debt exclusion, which allows the town to raise property taxes temporarily above the limits of Proposition 2½ to service the debt, carried all seven precincts. See earlier story here.
Unofficial Precinct Results:
Precinct 1: 115 Yes, 84 No
Precinct 2: 130 Yes, 64 No
Precinct 3: 100 Yes, 62 No
Precinct 4: 188 Yes, 29 No
Precinct 5: 122 Yes, 38 No
Precinct 6: 163 Yes, 46 No
Precinct 7: 218 Yes, 57 No
The text of the question was: “Shall the town of Marshfield be allowed to be exempt from the provisions of proposition two and a half, so-called, the amounts required to pay for the bond issued in order to pay for the cost of the roof replacement at the Martinson elementary school, 257 Forest Street, Marshfield, Massachusetts 02050, including all costs incidental or related thereto?”
These results remain unofficial until certified by the Marshfield Town Clerk. The approval paves the way for the town to solicit bids and begin working with the Massachusetts School Building Authority.

Really solid reporting on the precinct-level breakdown. That 73% support across all seven districts tells a more compelte story than just the final tally would. The consistancy between precincts (even Precinct 4 with 87% yes) suggests something rare: genuine consensus on a tax increase. I've seen similar debt exclusions for school infrastructure in other MA towns but they usualy face way more pushback.
