HANOVER - July 6, 2026 - The Hanover Select Board has approved four-year work agreements for the town’s deputy fire chief and police lieutenant, alongside a new three-year memorandum of understanding with the Hanover Firefighters Union. The newly ratified agreements establish ascending salary schedules through fiscal year 2029 and include a structured buyout of historical sick leave benefits for law enforcement leadership.

The Full Story

Following a brief executive session convened to discuss collective bargaining and contract negotiations, the Hanover Select Board returned to open session to finalize major personnel agreements for the town’s public safety departments.

The board first addressed the employment agreement for the deputy fire chief. Chair Greg Satterwhite introduced a motion establishing a four-year salary progression beginning retroactively for fiscal year 2026. Under the newly approved terms, the deputy fire chief’s compensation will start at $156,560 for 2026, rising to $160,474 in 2027, $164,486 in 2028, and concluding at $168,598 in fiscal year 2029. The motion passed unanimously via a roll-call vote featuring board members James Hoyes, Rachel Hughes, and Satterwhite.

The board then turned to a separate four-year work agreement for the town’s police lieutenant. The salary structure for this role is set at $159,392.50 for fiscal year 2026, increasing to $163,377.31 in 2027, $167,461.75 in 2028, and reaching $171,648.29 by fiscal year 2029.
